FCI Syllabus and Exam Pattern for Every Post

The FCI syllabus decides what you study for months, so it pays to read it properly before you buy a single book. FCI runs online exams for its Category II, III and IV posts, and each post group has its own papers.

This page explains the Food Corporation of India syllabus in general terms: what Phase I usually tests, what Phase II adds for each stream, how manager papers differ, and how to build a daily plan around it. The exact topics, marks and timing are printed in the current notification on fci.gov.in, and that notice always wins over any summary, including this one.

How the FCI Syllabus Is Organised

FCI does not use one paper for everyone. It groups posts into categories and sets the test to match the work. Category III is what most people call the FCI non executive syllabus. It takes in AG III across the General, Accounts, Technical, Depot and Hindi streams, along with Junior Engineer and Stenographer Grade II. Category II covers managers and Assistant General Managers. Category IV, the watchman post, is notified region by region with its own simpler pattern.

For most Category II and III posts the Food Corporation of India exam pattern has two online phases. Phase I is a common screening test. Phase II is where your stream matters. Read the FCI syllabus and eligibility sections of the notice together, because a stream you are not eligible for has a syllabus you do not need.

Phase I and Phase II are both computer based tests, so practise on a screen and not only on paper.

Phase I Topics in the Food Corporation of India Exam Syllabus

Phase I is the gate. It is usually common to all AG-III streams and tests three areas. Marks from this round are normally used only to shortlist for Phase II, but if the notice sets sectional cut offs you must clear each one.

English language

Reading comprehension, cloze passages, error spotting, sentence improvement, fill in the blanks, para jumbles and vocabulary. Read one editorial a day and note new words with their use in a sentence.

Reasoning ability

Puzzles and seating arrangement, syllogism, inequality, coding and decoding, blood relations, direction sense and input output. Puzzles take the most time, so practise them under a timer.

Numerical aptitude

Simplification, number series, data interpretation, quadratic equations, and arithmetic such as percentage, ratio, profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance, and simple and compound interest. Learn squares, cubes and common fractions by heart to save time.

Phase II Papers by Stream, Including the FCI Depot Syllabus

Phase II carries the weight in the merit list for most AG-III streams, so plan most of your study hours here. The papers change by stream. In past notices the pattern looked like this:

  • General and Depot: general awareness with current affairs and static topics, plus computer awareness. Many readers search for the FCI depot syllabus separately, but it has usually matched the General stream closely.
  • Accounts: the common papers plus commerce subjects such as accountancy, cost accounting, auditing, taxation and business finance.
  • Technical: the common papers plus agriculture, botany, zoology, chemistry and food science topics linked to grain quality and storage.
  • Hindi: the common papers plus Hindi language and translation between Hindi and English.

Check the stream table in your notice. Some streams have had an extra professional paper and some have not. Read the AG-III guide for eligibility by stream.

Technical and Depot stream topics often connect to the real work of storing grain safely in large covered depots.

Agriculture and food science topics in the Technical paper cover grain quality checks like the ones done with simple samples.

Manager Posts and Other Category II Papers

Manager and AGM papers add professional knowledge to the usual aptitude areas. A Manager (Accounts) candidate faces accounting and finance questions, a Manager (Technical) candidate faces agriculture and food science, and the engineering posts face civil or electrical mechanical subjects at degree level. Manager (Hindi) adds Hindi and translation. The manager recruitment guide covers eligibility for each discipline. Read the scheme in the Category II notice carefully, because the rounds after the online test and their weight have changed between cycles.

FCI Syllabus in Hindi and Bilingual Papers

Many readers search for the FCI syllabus in Hindi, or simply "FCI ka syllabus" or "Food Corporation of India ka syllabus". The scheme of examination states which sections are offered in Hindi as well as English, and the English language section is tested in English. Hindi stream papers test Hindi directly. The notice is usually published in both Hindi and English on fci.gov.in, so you can read the syllabus in the language you are most comfortable with. If the two versions ever seem to differ, ask the helpdesk named in the notice rather than guessing.

A Simple Study Timetable

Most candidates prepare while working or studying, so a short fixed routine beats long irregular sessions. Here is a sample weekly frame you can adjust:

  1. Download the current notice from fci.gov.in and highlight the papers for your stream.
  2. List every topic on one sheet and mark each as strong, average or weak.
  3. Give weak topics the morning slots for the first month.
  4. Start full mock tests at least once a week from the second month.
  5. In the last weeks, stop new topics and revise from your own notes.

Books, Old Papers and Mock Tests

Readers often ask about the best books for Food Corporation of India exams. There is no official book list. Standard school level books for arithmetic, a good grammar book, and a general awareness guide that is updated each cycle cover Phase I. For stream papers, use your degree textbooks for accounts, agriculture or engineering. Be careful with any Food Corporation of India books that print "guaranteed questions".

Old papers are useful for the style of questions, and many readers look for the FCI previous year question paper in Hindi. FCI does not always publish past papers, so most sets in circulation are memory based. Use them to understand the level, not as a copy of the next exam. Take full mock tests in the same time limit, then spend as long reviewing as you spent writing. When the exam is near, read the admit card guide so the last week stays calm, and see the FCI recruitment overview for the full process.

Questions people ask

What is the FCI non executive syllabus?

It is the syllabus for Category III posts such as AG-III, Junior Engineer and Stenographer. For AG-III, Phase I has English, reasoning and numerical aptitude, and Phase II has stream papers. The exact topics are in the current notice.

Is the FCI recruitment syllabus the same for every stream?

Phase I is usually common, but Phase II changes by stream. Accounts adds commerce topics, Technical adds agriculture and science, and Hindi adds Hindi language and translation. Always match your stream to the table in the notice.

Can I read the FCI syllabus in Hindi?

Yes. FCI notices are usually released in Hindi and English on fci.gov.in. The notice also states which sections of the question paper can be taken in Hindi.

Is there an official list of books for Food Corporation of India exams?

No. FCI does not recommend any book. Use school level maths and grammar books for Phase I and your degree textbooks for stream papers, plus a current affairs source that is updated regularly.

Where can I find the FCI previous year question paper in Hindi?

FCI does not always publish past papers, so most sets you find are memory based. Use them only to understand the level and style. Mock tests in the real time limit are more useful.

Does the Food Corporation of India exam pattern change each cycle?

It can. Marks, timing, sectional cut offs and even the number of papers have changed between notices. Read the scheme of examination in the latest notification before you plan your study.
