FCI Depot Online System (DOS) Explained

The Depot Online System is the Food Corporation of India's online tool for running its grain depots, and inside FCI almost everyone just calls it DOS. It was launched in the mid 2010s so that each depot could record stock coming in, stock going out, grain quality and storage in real time, instead of in thick paper registers.

This page explains what FCI DOS does, who uses it, how the login works in general terms, what to try when the site does not open, and why you will now hear more about Anna Darpan. We are an unofficial guide. We do not run DOS and cannot give anyone access to it.

What the Depot Online System Does

Before DOS, each FCI depot kept its records by hand. Receipts, issues, stock balances and quality notes sat in registers that only people at that depot could see. Checking a figure meant phone calls and letters.

The fci depot online system, which some people search for as fci online depot or depot online fci, moved that work to a single website. Depot staff enter each event as it happens, and the record is visible online to the officers who need it. The aim was simple: one set of figures, updated in real time, with no separate paper copy to match.

DOS is a work tool for depots. It does not sell grain, take job applications or show your salary. Those jobs belong to other systems, such as FCI HRMS for employees.

What FCI Depot Online Records

The system covers the main daily jobs of a depot. Here is a simple picture of what goes in.

AreaWhat depot staff record
ReceiptsStock arriving at the depot
IssuesStock sent out of the depot
QualityChecks on the condition of the stored grain
StorageWhere and how the stock is held in the depot

Because these entries are made online, the stock balance does not have to be copied from one register to another at the end of the day. That was one of the main reasons for building DOS: to replace manual registers with one live record.

SMS alerts

DOS also sends SMS alerts to depot officials and managers. This means a manager can learn about activity at a depot without being there or waiting for a report to arrive by post.

Who Uses DOS FCI and the DOS Login

DOS fci is used by depot staff and the officers who supervise depots. It is not a public website, and job seekers, traders and ordinary citizens have no account on it.

People search for this in many ways: fci dos login, dos fci login, fci depot online login or fci depot online system login. The answer is the same for all of them. For the fci dos login, each staff member works with a user ID issued by the office they report to. We do not publish login steps, and you should not follow any that circulate in messages. If you are posted to a depot and need access, ask your depot manager or the office that handles DOS users.

A few points worth remembering about the depot online system login:

  • The official address is fcidepotonline.gov.in. Type it yourself.
  • Your user ID belongs to you. Do not let a colleague work under your ID.
  • Keep your DOS password separate from your HRMS password.

Which Godowns the Depot Online System Covers

FCI stores grain in its own depots and also in hired space. The plan for DOS was to bring all FCI owned depots online first. After that, hired godowns of the Central Warehousing Corporation and the state warehousing corporations were to be added.

Bringing hired godowns into the same system was meant to give one view of stock across both kinds of storage, not just the depots FCI owns. You can read more about the types of storage on our FCI godown page.

When fcidepotonline.gov.in Does Not Open

If the fci dos online site will not load, work through these steps before you raise a complaint.

  1. Check the address. It must be fcidepotonline.gov.in, typed by you, not a link from a message.
  2. Check your internet connection by opening any other site.
  3. Use a current browser and close old tabs of the same site.
  4. Try again after some time. A site can be slow or under maintenance at busy hours.
  5. Ask colleagues at the depot whether it works for them. If nobody can open it, tell your depot manager.
  6. If only your ID fails, ask the office that issued your user ID to check it.

Also ask your office whether your depot's work has moved to Anna Darpan. If it has, the old site may not be the place to enter that work any more.

Anna Darpan and the Future of the Depot Online System

Over time, FCI has been shifting depot tasks to Anna Darpan, a newer system that joins up the whole supply chain. The idea is to bring depot work together with the rest of the grain supply chain in one system.

For depot staff this means two things. First, follow the latest office order on which system to use for each task. Second, do not assume that a guide or video about the old screens still applies. Your depot manager or regional office will know the current position.

If you are reading this to understand stock data in general, our IRRS FCI page covers the reporting side.

Anna Darpan is meant to join depot work with the wider grain supply chain, including stock that moves out of depots by rail.

What DOS Means in FCI Depot Jobs

Job seekers sometimes see DOS in old posts about FCI depot work and wonder what it is. In FCI depot language, DOS simply means the depot online system in FCI, nothing more. Staff at depots who handle stock entries work with it, or with its newer replacement, as part of daily work.

DOS is not an exam topic name or a post name. If you are preparing for depot posts, check the latest notice on fci.gov.in along with our FCI recruitment guide for the actual posts and syllabus.
