FCI Salary Structure Explained, with a Pay Calculator

FCI salary is not one fixed number, because it is built from a basic pay and allowances that change with your post, your city and the quarter of the year. That is why two colleagues with the same designation can see different take home pay on their slips.

This page explains how the pay is put together in words, how it differs from post to post, where CPF and retirement figures come from, and how to read your payslip in HRMS. We do not quote amounts or rates, because they change often. The calculator below lets you work out your gross pay from the figures on your own payslip or the latest circular.

FCI Salary Structure: How Pay Is Built

Everyone in FCI, from watchman to senior officer, is paid on an IDA pay scale. IDA stands for industrial dearness allowance, the pattern used in many public sector bodies, and it is different from the dearness allowance most central government offices use. Your monthly pay is made of a few parts:

PartWhat it isWhat decides it
Basic payYour point on the IDA pay scale for your postPost, grade and years of increments
IDAA percentage of basic payRevised every quarter by circular
HRAHouse rent allowance, a percentage of basicClass of the city you are posted in
Other allowancesPerks and allowances as per FCI rulesPost and the current circulars
DeductionsCPF, tax and other recoveriesRules and your own choices

Gross pay is the total before deductions. Net or take home pay is what is left after them. In the FCI payroll, every component appears line by line on your payslip.

Every part of your pay, from basic to deductions, is shown on the payslip, so start any calculation from that sheet.

IDA and HRA in Plain Words

IDA is linked to the cost of living. It is revised every quarter, so your gross pay can move up or down a little four times a year even when your basic pay stays the same. The new rate is announced through a circular, and your payslip shows the rate actually applied.

HRA is tied to how your posting city is classed. A move from a district office to a regional office in a state capital can change your HRA even if your post does not change. Employees living in quarters provided by the organisation follow the rules in the circular for that case. When you are transferred, check the HRA line on your first payslip in the new place.

FCI AG 3, Manager and Watchman Salary Compared

Each post sits on its own IDA scale, so the starting basic pay is different. The table compares posts in words. The current recruitment notice lists the pay scale for each post.

PostCategoryHow pay compares
WatchmanCategory IVEntry level scale for the post
Assistant Grade III (all streams)Category IIIScale set for AG III in the notice
Stenographer Grade II and Junior EngineerCategory IIIOwn scales, listed post wise
Manager (all disciplines)Category IIExecutive scale, higher than Category III
Assistant General ManagerCategory IIHigher executive scale

So the FCI AG 3 salary, FCI watchman salary and FCI manager salary all follow the same build up of basic plus IDA plus HRA, but from different starting points. The AG III guide and the manager recruitment guide explain how to find the scale in the notice.

FCI CPF, Pension and Retirement Benefits

FCI employees contribute to CPF, the contributory provident fund, and the deduction shows on every payslip. Your CPF balance and statements are matters for the HR and accounts section of your office.

For questions about FCI pension and other retirement benefits, use the Retirement Benefit Calculator inside HRMS. It works from your own service record, so it gives a better estimate than any general figure. For the final position, rely on the rules in the circulars and the advice of your HR section. Rules for Food Corporation of India pension and retirement benefits are set by circular, so read the latest one in Policies and Circulars.

How to See Your FCI Salary Slip in HRMS

Payslips and pay circulars are available in the FCI HRMS portal. The steps to reach them:

  1. Open hrmsfci.in/login in Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari.
  2. Enter your Employee Number as the login ID and the password given by the Computer or IT section.
  3. Type the captcha number shown and log in. You land on the Home Page.
  4. Under Employee Self Service, open the payslip option or the Reports menu, depending on how your home page is set up.
  5. Choose the month and download or view the slip.
  6. For IDA and HRA notices, open Policies and Circulars.

The session closes after about an hour with no activity, so save the slip before you step away. If you cannot log in, contact the HRMS nodal officer in your office. The full steps are in the FCI HRMS login guide.

How to Use the FCI Salary Calculator

The calculator below works out IDA, HRA and gross pay before deductions. It does not store or send anything. You need three figures:

  1. Type your basic pay, as shown on your latest payslip.
  2. Type the current IDA percentage, from your payslip or the latest IDA circular in HRMS.
  3. Type the HRA percentage for your posting city, from your payslip or the circular.
  4. Read the results: the IDA amount, the HRA amount and the gross before deductions.

The answer is an estimate. It leaves out other allowances and all deductions such as CPF and tax, so your net pay will be lower. When a new IDA circular comes out, change only the IDA percentage to see how your gross moves. Many people search for the FCI salary per month for a post they hope to join. In that case, take the basic pay from the scale in the notice and the IDA and HRA rates from a current circular, then treat the result as a rough guide.

Where Employees Find Official Pay Circulars

Pay rules change through circulars, not through websites like this one. Check these sources, in this order:

  • Policies and Circulars in HRMS: the place for IDA revisions, HRA rules and allowance orders.
  • Your payslip: it shows the rates actually applied to you.
  • The HR and accounts sections: they handle arrears, fixation and CPF questions.
  • fci.gov.in: for notices meant for the public, such as pay scales in recruitment notices.

If you are new and still preparing, the FCI recruitment guide explains the posts and where the pay scale appears in each notice.

Questions people ask

What is the FCI salary per month for a new employee?

It depends on the post, the starting basic pay on its IDA scale, the current IDA rate and the HRA for the posting city. We do not quote figures because rates change every quarter. Use the scale in the notice and the calculator on this page for an estimate.

What is the FCI assistant grade 3 salary based on?

AG III employees are on an IDA pay scale. Their pay is basic pay plus IDA, which changes every quarter, plus HRA by city class and other allowances, minus deductions such as CPF. The notice lists the scale.

Is the FCI manager salary on a different scale?

Yes. Managers and Assistant General Managers are Category II posts on higher executive IDA scales. The build up is the same: basic pay, IDA, HRA and allowances.

How do I download my FCI salary slip?

Log in to HRMS at hrmsfci.in with your Employee Number, password and captcha. Open the payslip option under Employee Self Service, pick the month and download it. Ask your HRMS nodal officer if the option is missing.

What is FCI CPF?

CPF is the contributory provident fund. FCI employees contribute to it, and the deduction appears on every payslip. Ask the HR or accounts section about balances and withdrawals.

What is the FCI assistant salary compared with a watchman?

Both follow the same build up of basic pay, IDA and HRA, but the assistant post sits on a higher IDA scale than the watchman post. Check the scales in the current recruitment notices.
